Oxycodone
Oxycodone, sold under the brand names Roxicodone and OxyContin (which is the extended release form) among others, is an opioid medication used for treatment of moderate to severe pain. It is highly addictive and a common drug of abuse. It is usually taken by mouth, and is available in immediate-release and controlled-release formulations. Onset of pain relief typically begins within fifteen minutes and lasts for up to six hours with the immediate-release formulation. In the United Kingdom, it is available by injection. Combination products are also available with paracetamol (acetaminophen), ibuprofen, naloxone, naltrexone, and aspirin.
Common side effects include euphoria, constipation, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, dizziness, itching, dry mouth, and sweating. Severe side effects may include addiction, dependence, aggression, mania or depression, hallucinations, hypoventilation, gastroparesis, bradycardia, and hypotension. Those allergic to codeine may also be allergic to oxycodone. Use of oxycodone in early pregnancy appears relatively safe.Opioid withdrawal may occur if rapidly stopped.Oxycodone acts by activating the μ-opioid receptor. When taken by mouth, it has roughly 1.5 times the effect of the equivalent amount of morphine.

I have been taking this medicine for aprox 15years and tried a pluthera of different drugs and I have had great results with it. The only thing that would make things better is if the effects would last things would work longer and I have found that it interferes with my ability to remember things and affects my ability to remember things that I have said or done while under its influence. But in the long run the benefits outweigh the sideaffects by a very long shot.

Oxycodone is the BEST pain medication for CHRONIC SEVERE LOWER LUMBAR BACK PAIN! It works a bit less by the 4th year or so, but, at least takes the “edge” off more than any other pain medication. The problem is….many, many doctors will not take you on as a patient for “chronic severe pain” with anything…if you need any narcotic in order to function! They ALL seem to be “FRAIDY CATS” because of the “drug addicts” that exist on the “outside!” THAT, is NOT FAIR! What do you do when you need a doctor to treatyour severe pain? Have YOU experienced this also? I think that someone from one of the “news shows”…even CNN or MSNBC…should do a program on “People Who Are In Chronic Severe Pain…but “Is There A Doctor In The House???!!!” Right?? What are the Doctors for, if they cannot prescribe the medication that you honestly need to “function?” What do YOU all think??? Thankyou. Arlington, Mass.

I’ve been on Oxycodone for about six years for breakthrough pain due to chronic pain caused by Crohn’s Disease and spinal pain (Ankylosing Spondylitis and Degenerative Disc Disease) and have been on the same dose for around three years. It’s not as effective as it used to be due to tolerance, but I can definitely tell if I miss a dose or go too long without it.

it somewhat took away the pain

This medication has been a lifesaver. I am allergic to Advil and other NSAID’s and cannot take them. I have many medical problems (multiple surgeries on joints, herniated discs, etc.) that Tylenol does not work. My doctor gave it to me and has helped me so well. I would have not been able to finish college without it. I have been on it for 10 years, has not increased the dose in over 6 years, and have been living better than without them. Unfortunately, the opioid “epidemic” has made doctors to not prescribe it as much, and now my doctors are forcing me off the medication, which worries me as to what will happen to my pain. They already lowered me and I’m in so much more pain. It’s a knee jerk response to the “epidemic” that it is hurting the patients that actually need it. It’s awful. But this medication works as long as you are under the guidance and care of a doctor.

Goal: A reduction of throat (oropharyngeal) pain. While easy to administer, overall pain-scale numbers will drop ~3 points post-ingestion. Overall functioning improves. Increased activity levels mean a great deal when considering the alternative.

This medication has worked decently for me. No increase in over 2 years. I see a lot of people commenting on certain manufacturers on here. So just some shared intel for you guys. 🙂 For those that get a generic version, know that those drug companies are not held to the same standard as the brand name. Generics only have to be within a certain range of the active ingredient, whereas Brand names have a strict standard to follow. This is when being a pharmacy tech is helpful. Also, there are different binders used amongst the different companies. So if you have say a food dye allergy be sure to have the pharmacist check the ingredients for you and they can help find a manufacturer that works for you. Most pharmacies should be able to order a different manufacturer for you. Not a guarantee always but definitely worth checking into. Any decent Pharmacist should honor your request or at least try.

I have been taking 2.5mg of oxycodone-apap for 12 years. I have severe disc problems and spinal stenosis. Have enough pain relief from this small does, that I can bare the pain. I read other comments and I think people don’t understand that this type of medication taken on a daily basis is not going to eliminate all pain. It’s only meant to take the edge off. If you’re getting high from it then you’re taking to much. The idea of pain management is quality of life. The exception of course is for acute pain, or terminal illness. All medications from all manufacturers must go through the FDA process. If the meds aren’t making you high anymore it’s a drug tolerance, but they may still work for pain. This is how I am. If course a higher dose makes me high, but I have no increased pain relief. I have started to get injections in my back. It took a few tries to get enough relief, but along with my low dose pain meds, I’m much better. One thing I noticed thar helped alot. I cut back on sugar and carbohydrates and began taking turmeric and alpha hypoxic acid. The sugars cause inflammation. The turmeric and AHA decrease inflammation. Check with your doctor before trying the supplement
